IIPM Ranking: interview of Dean A Sandeep by Times of India

An interview excerpt from the Times of India Prof. A Sandeep Dean – IIPM 1) Global Outreach Program Phase I of the Global Outreach Program consists of the innovative Global Opportunity and Threat Analysis paper which is compulsory at IIPM. Students are given a unique opportunity to visit various leading international organizations like World Bank, WHO, UN, and many more apart from management institutions and global corporate headquarters for a two week study trip to the European or American continent Phase II involved the introduction of another innovative concept – faculty members from around the world visit IIPM campuses in India to take classes and workshops. These faculty are the best in their chosen subjects and teach at Ivy-league institutes like Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg, Columbia, Chicago, GSB, MIT and Yale apart from other leading European academic institutions of excellence like Cambridge and Oxford University. In Phase III, IIPM entered into research and publications alliances with international academic partners. HR, Finance, Strategy and Marketing experts and faculty from around the world collaborate with faculty and researchers at IIPM on gathering and analyzing data on the latest trends and findings in the field of management. Recently, IIPM and Yale School of Management agreed to conduct a landmark joint research exercise: The Yale IIPM Stock Market Analysis report. Phase IV was another ground-breaking approach by IIPM, whereby, it has now decided to expand beyond the national boundary and set up campuses in international locations. The first is in London, where a majestic 120 year old property called The Flagship covering over 45000 sq feet has been acquired in Central London. The institute, in this regard has planned out an investment of 20 million US$ in the next two financial years. As a result of its expansion into London, the city would slowly be made into a hub for all of IIPM’s GOTA programs, which witnesses a flow of around 3000 students per annum. The entire trip for the students would be sponsored by the institute, which amounts to around Rs.60,000 per head. 2) Placements + International After completion of any Management program is the dawn of morning for every Management graduate and the aspiration to get placed in a big corporate. It is now the test of life for all MBA graduates to start working in a corporate and apply skills that they have acquired over two years of rigorous studies with a focus on conceptual knowledge, case-studies, projects and presentations. With the emergence of India as a global economic power and capturing international headlines, with all business eastward bn radio, did she still consider him sponge-worthy?

Late last night I sent Body Builder Boy my phone number. There was something about the tone in his previous email that really made me think he'd never call. Needless to say, I was quite surprised to hear a message from him a couple hours ago. I have to admit, he sounded good on the phone. His message was fairly brief, but his personality sounded more like the one I detected in his profile than the one in his emails. Now I'm not sure what to think of him. I dread having to return his call, but as much as I feel I need blind-date practice, I think I need pre-blind-date phone practice even more.

IIPM Ranking - How BusinessWorld did a fake story, and fudges its rankings

BusinessWorld did a story on IIPM, where they carried claims of bloggers about IIPM - false, malicious accusations whcih have no basis in reality - basically bullshit. No journalist would publish those sort of allegations without counter checking. Really ridiculous.

But, it is painfully apparent why this was done - IIPM's Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri is the Editor of Business & Economy magazine - which has capture 30% of the business magazine marketshare in less than 6 months.

It is now clear why Business World would carry the IIPM story - because they want to discredit a respectable institute and its leaders. Despicable journalistic standards!!

Further, a little birdie tells me that Rajeev Dubey, editor at Business World, applied for a job at Business & Economy, and was rejected! Motive??!! Whats even better, Rashmi Bansal, who is an IIM alumni, is a contributing editor at Business World - IIM and IIPM are like Yale and Harvard - forever competing. Another motive!!!

IIPM: Rank? IIPM: Placements! IIPM: Interesting Facts!

IIPM's rankings are something I love to talk about. Rankings in Business Today, Business World etc are anyway done by incompetent journalists who know nothing about business - everyone knows that, and ISB last year and IIM's this year followed in IIPM's footsteps to stay out of rankings (IIPM website - www.iipm.edu).

So, IIM alumni and current students are using the Indian bloggers to try to pull down IIPM, due to their jealousy.

TR Vivek wrote in Outlook Magazine - October 2005
http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20051031&fname=Internet+(F)&sid=1

"The Indian blogging community (or blogosphere, as it likes to call itself) is
essentially a bitchy, self-indulgent and an almost incestuous network comprising
journalists, wannabe-writers and a massive army of geeks who give vent to their
creative ambitions on the Internet," Vivek wrote. "Given that the average blogger-age
is 25 years, it's clear bloggers love to indulge in hearty name-calling and taking
college-style potshots at others. This is probably why some of them get into trouble."

:) This blogging fiasco is a sham - everyone knows it. Half the blogs are written by a few people who have created many accounts and identities.

Here is a list of the international faculty who teach IIPM students... its a elite list of the world's best b-school professors.. and the IIM professors and students must be burning with jealousy!!

IIPM Ranking - Factseveryone must know about this premier b-school ranking!

Fact - IIPM refused to take part in rankings whenever requested by various magazines until 2002, because the institute did not believe that journalists who have no business education, much less a understanding of how to teach business, could try to rank the courses offered.

Fact - IIPM took part in Outlook's 2003 survey, after Editor Sandeep Deb and C-FORE (research agency with 3 employees, owner Palety is related to Outlooks publisher - talk about bias!!) said they would use only objective methodology so that no bias would creep in.

Fact - IIPM was Ranked 4th in Industry Interface in the country, by Outlook survey. Industry Interace measure how corporates and faculty and srudents interact, and is an objective measure.

Fact - IIPM was ranked 7th in International Linkages - professors from Harvard, Kellogg, Columbia, Stanford and many other leading b-schools worldwide come to IIPM and teach. Exchange programs and research tie ups with Yale School of Management are well known.

Fact - IIPM was ranked 5th in Extra curricular activities - students at IIPM have won competitions at the IIM's and every other institute they have attended - the focus on Leadership and Communication at IIPM shows!!

Then, when C-FORE put up a website Indiabschools, Palwety came to IIPM to ask for registration fee to show the rnakings on his website. IIPM refused on ethical grounds. Palety then created subjective parameters in the survey, and ranked IIPM 47, 48, 50th in all these subjective parameters - out of 50 b-schools!! Pathetic comercialisation of journalism and thins rankings hoopla is exposed!

Further, Palety C-FORe issued a press statement saying IIPM removed from the rankings for providing bad data - an accusation the Outlook people and Sandeepan Deb specfically refuted in the media (refer Hindustan Times)

Recently in 2005, Outlook, in a bid to force IIPM to spend money on advertsing in its magazine and buying bulk subscriptions, then asked IIPM to participate one again in its survey - IIPM refused, quite reasonably. Interestingly, most of the IIM's and ISB also refused.

Then, Outlook issued notices in its own magazine saying IIPM could not use the 2003 rankings in their promotional material any more, as the ranking had now been withdrawn. Ridiculous, since, across all parameters, the institue has improved constantly over the past 2 years. Further, a blatant effort at arm twisting an institute into spending money on essentially buying rankings.

Other publications, including India TOday, Business TOday and Business Barons, have placed IIPM in the TOp 10 on various parameters... but the institute has never actively participated in these surveys, and has sent notices to thesepublications requestng that their name not be used in any rankings.

That is the truth... how media uses the rankings to get advertisements and revenue. Corruption and illegitimacy surround this exercise. And an institite which is changing the country, creating entrepreneurs and managers, is embroiled in it, and only wants to continue its mission, without having to face interference from meddlesome and profiteering researchers and publications. IIPM was founded by Dr. MK Chaudhuri – he is the Director at the institute today, and has taught Economics at IIM – Bangalore and XLRI. The institute’s prospectus has his detailed profile….
